RAPID QUOTING -
A specialist firm that installs industrial insulation had a problem. It was taking them a whole day to quote for each job. Theirs is a competitive business and this was seriously affecting their ability to compete with other, larger firms. They came to us and asked for a program that would cut the time it took them to quote. We wrote a program that stores details of their jobs and materials. They can now do their quotes in 1/2 hour

RECONCILING DIFFERENCES - A well-known bookmaker needed to monitor the integrity of the data they send to their shops around the country. The data is structured as messages and transmitted to the shops by two methods. We wrote a monitoring program that analyses the data from the two methods and keeps a record of any differences in the two data streams. It then passes the data on, either to a serial port or to another copy of the program, running on a different computer, giving the client optimum control

HITTING THE ROAD - An engineering firm that makes testing machines needed a program for a new version of a machine that tests road surface materials. It had to start and stop the machine, count the number of test cycles it had made and monitor the sample in case it broke up. We wrote a program that uses State objects to control the test machine, storing the test results in a Microsoft Access database

FLUSHING OUT CORRUPTION
A printer uses a Microsoft Access program to record quotations and orders. If one of their computers crashed while it was using the program, the database was damaged and they couldn't use the program until it was repaired. They were also having problems when more than one person looked at the same order - the second computer locked. We converted the program to use MySQL as its database. Now if a computer crashes the database is unaffected and if someone tries to look at an order that someone else is editing they're not locked out of the system
